3D Object Scanning & Digitization: Preserving Stories Through Occupying Virtual Space

Together, we will work to explore 3D scanning to document and preserve objects that hold personal and artistic significance. In this hands-on workshop, led by Digital Matters Graduate Fellow Pablo Cruz-Ayala (MFA Student, Studio Art), participants will learn to use Polycam, a versatile application tool, to capture and digitize objects that can be manipulated, stored, and even 3D printed. Whether it’s a sentimental keepsake or an artwork, this process combines art and accessible technology to explore new ways of storytelling, archiving, and creative expression. Documentation is a deeply rooted anchor within community advocacy; participants are encouraged to bring family mementos, personally significant items, artworks, and sculptures.
