Fall 2025 Workshops
Join us for a talk with Joseph A. Mayaki, PhD candidate in Writing and Rhetoric Studies at the University of Utah and a Graduate Fellow with the Digital Matters Lab.
Joseph’s research examines digital grief narratives, focusing on how online communities use writing to process loss and foster connection. His work highlights the therapeutic dimensions of digital rhetoric, textualization, and affective publics, and explores how these shape contemporary practices of mourning.
Drawing on his background in grief and creativity studies at the University of Ibadan, Joseph is now incorporating digital humanities methods including text mining, sentiment analysis, and visualization into his research. By doing so, he bridges the fields of rhetoric, health humanities, and digital culture
