Digital Matters Workshop — Storytelling with Data, Lizzie Callaway, Postdoctoral Scholar

November 14, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Do you have humanities data? Do you hope to someday have humanities data? Then come to this workshop and learn how to tell a story with your data! In the humanities we are well trained in finding and telling stories, but we often have little experience using structured data as our raw material to generate compelling academic arguments. We also often find ourselves untrained in how to make these arguments in visual, rather than verbal, forms. In this workshop you can bring your own data or use a provided dataset to think about the types of stories that can be told from data. This is a hands-on workshop; we will use the free website RAWGraphs to visualize datasets in different ways alongside data sculptures that we will create using everyday crafting materials. Throughout, we will think through how story and form interact in visualizations. No experience coding, artistic, or otherwise required.
