Announcement: Director, Librarian, and Postdoctoral Scholar Hired

Digital Matters Director
We are happy to announce that David Roh has been selected as the Digital Matters Director. David has been working at the University since 2015 and was initially hired with a mandate to make digital humanities a common aspect of the University’s research enterprise. He has been a major contributor to the development of Digital Matters, created the Digital Humanities Research Interest Group, and was the co-chair of last year’s Digital Humanities Symposium Utah (DHU2). As the Director, David will develop a vision for Digital Matters, develop partnerships and seek collaborators at the University and beyond, provide oversight of the day-to-day operations of DM and help to plan and organize intellectual programming, grants, fellowships, pedagogical initiatives, and outreach.

Digital Matters Librarian Appointment
We are happy to announce that Rebekah Cummings has been selected as the Digital Matters Librarian. Rebekah began working at Marriott Library in 2013, first as Assistant Director and Outreach Librarian for the Mountain West Digital Library, and currently as Research Data Management Librarian. From 2015-2016, she was a member of the Digital Matters (DM) Working Group and, in 2017, chaired the Digital Matters Steering Committee. During the past year, she co-chaired the 2nd annual Utah Symposium for the Digital Humanities (DHU2), attended the Data Science and Visualization Institute for Librarians, and coordinated several DM events. In her new position, Rebekah and the Digital Matters Director will work alongside, and build upon, the University’s and Library’s existing resources, services, and personnel to facilitate and promote digital scholarship at the University of Utah. Rebekah will start the transition to her new position on March 1, 2018.

PostDoc Appointment for Digital Matters

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Callaway will be joining the Marriott Library as a postdoctoral fellow in Digital Matters. Her first day was Thursday, February 1. Dr. Callaway joins us from the Environmental Humanities Program and her research connects cultural criticism and the impact of environmental issues. She has participated in DM events through lightning talks, as a featured panelist at the DHU2 conference, workshop instructor, and has actively participated in the DH Research Interest Group. Some of her duties in Digital Matters include assisting with day-to-day operations of DM, helping to plan and implement intellectual programming, and assisting with the development, implementation, and regular review of an intake process for research projects.
